Living With Intention...

There has been a huge volume of work written recently about Intention. Authors such as Wayne Dyer and Deepak Chopra, among others, have focused on various themes and aspects of Intention. Their work has brought an uprising of awareness to the concept. It must surely be a healthy shift for many who are newly or more deeply befriending this perspective. I feel strongly that living with Intention, with a clear focus, makes for increased fulfillment in life.

And, like anything else, there is another way to view this phenomenon, which I believe deserves some attention and consideration.

There are those who say that honoring Intention means being arrogant and inconsiderate of others, that one is too self-centered. They might say purpose, or conscious awareness, equates to narrow-mindedness and inflexibility.

They, of course, are correct! For that perspective reflects their priorities. As are those who believe that Intention is a healthy, beneficial way to live. For it is whatever the individual perceives it to be.

Just as enormously “successful” people are thought to be selfish by some and admired by others, and those who struggle to make ends meet are looked upon as “unfortunate” by some and inspiring to others, it’s a fact of life. And thus will it ever be.

Above all, this is a delicious example of how every breathing person has the undeniable right to focus his camera as they choose. They can label Intentionality as they see fit, as they can with any way of living – assertiveness, meekness, extravagance, piety, etc., etc. But all this is for the “observers”.

Those busy living with their own focus aren’t even cognizant of the side-effects of their choices. Their concentration is on their path, their inner voice, their mission.

It’s the beauty of having this free will to choose and live as we determine, independent from “the good opinion of others”. Whatever you do, you are invited to do so with Intention. Or not.

Just For Today!

• What memories can you create today? Every memory that you possess is a snapshot of a moment. And attached to that snapshot are sounds, and emotions, and special meanings that you have about that particular moment. In general, memories are not intentionally created – they happen, marking a special event. Yet I believe if you were to look for special moments, you could create memories every day of your life, even during otherwise mundane times. Look around your house – take a moment to notice what you love about it. When you’re outside, find the beauty around you. Or look in a mirror at your eyes, and see your divinity. Try it, just for today.
